June 20, 2009 Lung Cancer Cure Walk: Start 10am June 20, 2009, Saturday.
NEW! Rain or Shine! Start 10am. Director: Debi Koons
www.lungevity.org/ketchikan
Start is at 10:00am. Parking at the Ketchikan High School lower lot and walk over to the 3rd Ave. bypass. I am feeling that we will have 3 walk levels for walkers to choose from. I will include a map later. The routes are:
1. Bypass and back
2. Bypass and down Schoenbar Road bypass and back on Tongass then up Jefferson to High School lot.
3. Bypass and up Forest Ave. then down Pine then Grant then Tongass to Jefferson to High School.
Each team chooses a name and a fundraising goal and participants can join the team to help. Of course, individual walkers are also encouraged to participate in this Walk/ Fundraiser. It is a great way to reach out to your circle of friends that would like to participate possibly folks that have been affected by lung cancer.
It sure would be great to have folks from Ketchikan Running & Walking Club participate. Perhaps they could make their own team. They could walk for Lung Cancer survivors they know, a person undergoing Lung Cancer treatments they know, or walk in memory of a person that lost their battle with Lung Cancer. Everyone is welcome to participate.
REGISTRATION FEES: Lung Cancer Survivor - $15, Adult - $20, Student - $10,
Child - $5
Some facts about lung cancer.
1. You don’t have to be a smoker to get it.
2. Lung cancer is the top cancer killer but is the most under funded. This is what I want to change. With funding for research it won’t be the top killer. We all know too well that this cancer lays quiet and by the time you have symptoms you are very ill.
Thanks much! Debi
